The Cord

I find that I am here again
back where I began
so shortly ago I scaled the greatest heights
I soared with excitement and joy
never again
I believed
to fall

But here I am again
back where I began

So this joy was no peak,
but the crest of a circle
reaching the top
I was destined to slide round
and from here, at the bottom
there is nowhere but up

But what keeps me in this circle?

I spin, always around you

Perhaps this time,
when I get my momentum going
I will let go of the string
the centrifugal force will act
and instead of rolling back

I will fly...
